We were first unsure if we should be adding on/remodeling our home on the lake, or if we should demolish and build what we really wanted. The second question we had was who could we work with "long distance" since we live full time in Illinois. Brent Parent made our decisions much easier! I had been through one of his homes during a Parade of Homes, and really liked it, and gave him a call with some questions. He is an incredible down to earth guy that truly loves what he does. He helped us from day one, getting us in touch with the right people to answer the questions we had. His knowledge and networking in his business is incredible. We did decide to do a complete demolish, and build our "dream home". Brent put us in touch with a home designer that helped us design the perfect home for our lot and our life style. Long distance was not a problem, Brent was on top of everything, and when he says " I build it like it is my own", he does really mean it. We absolutely love our home, two years later, and still say, "man I love this place". The workmanship is outstanding, we could not be happier with how our whole experience has turned out. We would and DO highly recommend Parent Custom Homes.
We started the homebuiliding process by interviewing 6 different builders and it was clear that Parent Custom Homes was the best choice in building our new house. Parent Custom Homes was the right choice because of the quality of the work that we've consistently seen during the Parade of Homes and other Parent Custom homes visits. “Having never been through the home building experience, the thought of it alone was intimidating even as we were just starting the process. We did not want a builder with a portfolio of cookie cutter homes. We didn’t want to be locked into options that favored the builder’s bottom line instead of our ongoing satisfaction.
We were referred to Brent from a trusted friend and from the beginning, we appreciated how available and up front he was about the huge (to us) decisions flying at us each week. “When we decided to build the home of our dreams, we retained an architect and worked on the plans for a year. Once we had our plans, we began interviewing different builders. Once we met the Parents, our search was over. We were impressed, not just with their construction expertise, but with their character, values, and how easy they were to work with.
We were not disappointed. Our home was a big undertaking and the Parent’s were with us every step of the way. Our home took 11 months to construct and there was not one day that they were not on the job site. Their sub-contractors were fantastic, and their work was outstanding. If there was any kind of issue that arose, they were on it immediately, got it resolved, and we moved on. After our closing they continued to deal with any minor issues that came up and got them quickly resolved.
It is not uncommon to hear horror stories about homeowners and their rocky relationship with their contractor. That was never the case with the Parent family. We actually became great friends with their family and that friendship continues today.

“Brent Parent and Parent Custom Homes undertook the challenge to create my dream home. Their challenge was to build the home I wanted while I was at home in California and the lot was in Minnesota. Everything was done by computer, emails and phone calls. I could not have been more pleased. It was my dream home.
Along the way tradesmen made a mistake or two, but there was never a misstep on Brent correcting it and making sure I was happy with the result. If Brent got busy with family or other clients, he had backup in his brother and Father, and the project never stalled. Communication was excellent, every phone call was promply returned. “Fifteen years ago, we wanted to build our home on the Mississippi River. We decided to go through the Parade of Homes for ideas and look at builders. Honestly, when we saw a home that we loved or were impressed with, they turned out to be built by Parent Custom Homes. We met with Al Parent who started PCH before turning it over to his sons, Brent and Brooke. The process from start to finish was a very easy and yet fun experience. Each step, they checked and then rechecked with us to make sure this is what we wanted. “We are very pleased with Parent Custom homes and working with Brent. We started with a complete demolish of the original homestead and clearing of the wooded lake lot. Brent started out with some very specific requests that were unique and not typical for Upper Midwest homes. Features that were especially designed for a Florida built home that Brent had to incorporate into the new design and build of our new MN home. There are a couple of stand-out features that make our home very unique in many ways.
The finishing touches and workmanship carried throughout the exterior and interior are appealing and eye-catching. The interior workmanship and attention to detail is amazing. I have had so many compliments from other local area home builders and subs admiring the quality and especially the workmanship and detail of the:
- custom woodwork (with multi layers of custom cut trim and 6 panel 8’ doors)
- stone (funny story – the fireplace was designed around a specific size painting as the focal point in our living room, Brent will not forget this; job well done – it fit)
- ceramic tile, finishers/painters, and drywall (curved corners throughout home; several custom niche built in area’s for artwork, and custom ceilings)
